Microsoft Reveals Azure’s Actual Revenue: $33.2 Billion
Microsoft has disclosed Azure’s quarterly revenue in dollars for the first time: $33.2 billion for the July–September quarter, a 48% increase from a year earlier.
The figure gives investors a clearer way to compare Microsoft’s cloud business with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, both of which regularly report revenue in dollars.
Google Cloud generated $30.7 billion in the same quarter, putting Azure slightly ahead. However, Google Cloud revenue roughly doubled year over year—about twice Azure’s growth rate, based on TechCrunch’s calculations. Google Cloud’s total also includes Workspace subscriptions.
Azure provides businesses with computing power for applications and software services, as well as for building and running AI models. Microsoft said it is now the company’s largest and fastest-growing product line. Its quarterly revenue amounted to roughly 36% of Microsoft’s total $92.3 billion in revenue.
Azure also exceeded analyst expectations of $32.3 billion, while its 48% growth outpaced the 44% to 45% forecast by Microsoft CFO Amy Hood in July.
This quarter, Microsoft reorganized its reporting into two new segments. Azure is part of Agents and Infra, which also includes Microsoft 365’s cloud business. The segment brought in $76.8 billion, up 25% year over year.
Amazon was due to report earnings the following day. AWS remains the largest cloud provider, and Microsoft is not expected to overtake it immediately. But with Microsoft now providing Azure’s revenue in dollars, the cloud competition is easier to measure.
