While the advancements in AI enhance the detection of cybersecurity threats, they also bring forth more sophisticated challenges.
Research from Keeper Security indicates that, despite establishing AI-related policies, numerous organizations still find themselves unprepared for the threats posed by AI.
A striking 84% of IT and security leaders acknowledge that AI-powered tools have intensified the difficulty of identifying phishing and smishing attacks, which were already serious concerns. In reaction to this, 81% of organizations have implemented policies governing the use of AI by employees. There is a strong confidence in these measures, with 77% of leaders stating familiarity with best practices regarding AI security.
Over half (51%) of security leaders consider AI-driven attacks to be the most significant danger facing their organizations. Disturbingly, 35% of those surveyed believe they are not adequately prepared to tackle these threats in comparison to other cybersecurity issues.
Organizations are implementing a variety of key strategies to confront these rising challenges:
The rise of AI-infused cyber threats certainly introduces fresh hurdles. However, core cybersecurity practices – including data encryption, training for employees, and sophisticated threat detection – remain crucial. It is vital for organizations to ensure that these critical measures are regularly assessed and adapted to effectively combat new threats.
Beyond these fundamental practices, robust security frameworks such as zero trust and Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions can enhance an organization’s ability to withstand attacks.
The zero trust model mandates that all users, devices, and applications undergo continuous verification, which helps decrease the likelihood of unauthorized access and limits potential harm during an incident. Privileged Access Management (PAM) focuses on enhancing security for an organization’s most sensitive accounts, which is vital for countering sophisticated AI-driven attacks targeting high-level credentials.
Darren Guccione, the CEO and Co-Founder of Keeper Security, stated: “AI-driven attacks pose a significant challenge, but by strengthening our foundational cybersecurity practices and implementing advanced security measures, we can establish robust defenses against these evolving threats.”
Additionally, a proactive stance is crucial for organizations—consistently reviewing security policies, conducting regular audits, and promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness are all vital components.
As organizations progress, it is essential to maintain constant vigilance in cybersecurity. Combining traditional methods with modern strategies such as zero trust and PAM will enable organizations to stay ahead of emerging AI-driven threats.
