Chromia Unveils Asgard Upgrade: Ushering in a New Era for DeFi and AI
The Chromia blockchain has recently announced the successful implementation of its Asgard mainnet upgrade, which aims to enhance its Layer 1 blockchain by introducing new features designed to support decentralized finance (DeFi) and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This upgrade was announced on November 15 and is expected to redefine data organization on the blockchain, thereby transforming the landscape for Web 3 applications.
With the Asgard upgrade, Chromia has introduced the concept of Chromia Extensions, which provide modular enhancements that allow developers to implement additional functionalities on top of the existing blockchain infrastructure. This fosters innovation while retaining the advantages of the current system, including a relational data architecture and a gas-free model for users.
One of the notable features is the Oracle Extension, which delivers real-time price feeds directly on-chain, updated approximately every second. This extension enables the development of various DeFi applications such as decentralized exchanges and lending protocols, paving the way for greater activity within the DeFi space on the Chromia network. Ludvig Öberg, VP of the Chromia Platform Unit, emphasized that this extension is a critical step in strengthening the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.
In addition to the Oracle Extension, Chromia revealed plans to launch an AI Inference Extension in early 2025. This module will empower developers to execute AI models directly on-chain, utilizing Chromia’s decentralized provider network. Yeou Jie, Head of Business Development at Chromia, stated their commitment to enhancing transparency in AI, noting that the upcoming extension will facilitate the execution of AI models while ensuring clarity regarding the training data used.
The Asgard mainnet upgrade represents a significant technical advancement for Chromia, positioning the blockchain to accommodate a variety of applications in sectors such as AI, gaming, finance, and enterprise solutions.
