Intel’s Leadership Shake-Up: CEO of Products Exits in Major Restructuring
Intel is undergoing significant changes in its leadership, following the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as CEO in March. The company has announced that Michelle Johnston Holthaus, its Chief Executive Officer of Products, will leave after over thirty years at Intel, though she will continue as a strategic adviser.
Alongside this departure, Intel is also creating a new central engineering group that will focus on building custom silicon for outside customers, led by Srinivasan “Srini” Iyengar, who recently joined from Cadence Design Systems. Other notable leadership changes include Kevok Kechichian, who is coming on board from ARM to head the data center group, and Jim Johnson, who will now manage Intel’s client computing group.
Tan expressed that with Srini at the helm of Central Engineering, Intel aims to enhance its innovation and execution for customer service. He emphasized their commitment to delivering top-notch products and empowering engineering teams for faster execution. The leadership shake-up arrives shortly after a U.S. government plan to convert existing grants into a 10% stake in Intel, designed to impose penalties on the company for ownership changes in its foundry unit.
These shifts are part of a broader series of personnel adjustments that Intel has made this year, following the hiring of several leaders in sales and engineering roles. The company is focused on consolidating its leadership and aligning its strategies amidst an evolving semiconductor landscape.
