OpenAI is set to introduce a new AI smart speaker, which is expected to retail for between $300 and $400. This device has been characterized as a "donut-shaped" speaker, designed for portability around the home. Users will be able to place it in various locations, such as on bedside tables or kitchen counters.

The speaker will be made from high-quality metal, giving it a premium aesthetic. Notably, it will feature "moving parts," a detail that has caused some intrigue. Compared to other smart speakers on the market, like those from Amazon, this device will come at a higher price point—Amazon’s offerings range from around $40 to $240.

The introduction of this device aligns with OpenAI’s strategy to incorporate ChatGPT into consumers’ daily lives. However, entering the smart speaker market may be challenging, as such devices have historically posed profitability issues. The high price may further complicate its acceptance among consumers.

Developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design studio founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, the smart speaker is anticipated to be launched in 2027.
