Grok Releases the First Seven Minutes of Its AI-Generated ‘Odyssey’

Grok has released the opening seven minutes of its AI-generated take on The Odyssey, three months after Elon Musk said the company would make a full-length, “historically accurate” version. The footage is now being presented as “Episode 1” of a series created with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.
The release comes amid Musk’s criticism of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which drew his ire for casting nonwhite and transgender actors. The contrast between the two projects is stark: Nolan’s film was made with extensive practical production across six countries, while Grok’s version was generated with AI.
The Grok footage occasionally looks convincing, with some shots resembling actors sailing on a real sea. But its narration uses a familiar British fantasy-film accent, and the dialogue is stiff. The story’s lengthy voiceover backstory eventually gives way to a succession of bearded characters shouting their lines.
Despite a few realistic-looking moments, the clip feels short on artistry, momentum, and emotional connection. The result is difficult to stay engaged with—and hardly makes a compelling case for a full-length film.
