Sam Altman Teases More Major Partnerships for OpenAI Following Landmark Deals with Stargate, Oracle, Nvidia, and AMD

At the same time that Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang expressed his astonishment over OpenAI’s recent multibillion-dollar deal with AMD, Sam Altman from OpenAI announced that even more significant partnerships are on the horizon. During an appearance on CNBC, Huang was asked whether he was aware of the AMD deal in advance, to which he replied, "Not really."

Details of the AMD agreement reveal that it is quite unique. AMD is providing OpenAI substantial share amounts—up to 10%—over several years, depending on stock price performance. In return, OpenAI commits to utilizing and aiding in the development of AMD’s next-generation AI GPUs, essentially making it a stakeholder in AMD.

On the flip side, Nvidia’s arrangement involves an investment where Nvidia becomes a shareholder in OpenAI. For years, OpenAI has relied on Nvidia’s technology through various cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Oracle OCI. However, this upcoming deal marks OpenAI’s first direct acquisition of Nvidia’s equipment, which includes a broad range of AI infrastructure beyond just GPUs.

Huang indicated that these direct sales are part of a strategy to prepare OpenAI for a future where it operates its own data centers. He estimated that each gigawatt of AI data center infrastructure could cost OpenAI between $50 to $60 billion, factoring in land, power, and equipment costs.

As of 2025, OpenAI has contracted for the development of 10 gigawatts of facilities via a $500 billion Stargate deal in partnership with Oracle and SoftBank, alongside additional agreements with Nvidia and AMD for further gigawatts. This year alone, OpenAI has reportedly finalized $1 trillion worth of infrastructure deals.

Despite the staggering sums involved, Altman assured that even though OpenAI’s current revenue does not match this scale, he is confident in the returns these investments will yield. He explained that to take such a monumental gamble, OpenAI requires substantial industry support, prompting the need for future collaborations.

As he concluded, Altman hinted at a sustained push for additional deals, advising the tech sector to stay alert as OpenAI continues to navigate this expansive landscape.
