Factory Achieves $1.5B Valuation to Revolutionize AI Coding for Enterprises
More than three years after generative AI burst onto the scene, AI-assisted coding continues to dominate as a leading application of this technology. A plethora of companies, including Anthropic with its Claude Code, along with Cursor and Cognition, are fiercely competing for market share. However, many investors believe there’s still space for another contender in this burgeoning field.
This past Wednesday, Factory, a startup focused on creating AI tools for enterprise engineering teams, announced that it secured $150 million in funding, valuing the company at $1.5 billion. The funding round, spearheaded by Khosla Ventures, also saw participation from Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, and Blackstone. Keith Rabois from Khosla has joined Factory’s board as part of the investment.
According to Factory’s founder, Matan Grinberg, the startup’s unique value proposition lies in its ability to seamlessly switch between multiple foundational AI models, such as Anthropic’s Claude or models from the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek. This flexibility differentiates Factory from competitors like Cursor, who similarly exploit a variety of models for code generation.
Among Factory’s clientele are established corporations like Morgan Stanley, Ernst & Young, and Palo Alto Networks.
Grinberg, who launched Factory in 2023 after reaching out to Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire, was encouraged to leave his PhD studies at UC Berkeley to focus on the startup. The two found common ground in their academic interests, leading Sequoia to support Factory at its seed stage.
