Sriram Krishnan Appointed as Trump’s Senior Policy Advisor for AI
Incoming President Donald Trump has confirmed the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, previously a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), as the senior policy advisor for AI at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In a statement, Trump announced that Krishnan will be responsible for shaping and coordinating AI policy across the government in collaboration with the president’s council of advisors on science and technology.
Krishnan announced on X that he will work alongside David Sacks, the newly appointed crypto and AI czar and former COO of PayPal. Expressing his gratitude, Krishnan stated, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI.”
Before his role at a16z, Krishnan held various leadership positions at notable tech companies, including Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snap. He and his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, gained prominence as the hosts of the podcast "The Aarthi and Sriram Show."
Krishnan has a close working relationship with Elon Musk, having collaborated on rebuilding Twitter (now X) following Musk’s acquisition in 2022. Musk is co-leading a policy group that recommends government restructuring and spending cuts.
Having joined a16z in February 2021 and later leading the firm’s London office, Krishnan left the firm in late November. His insights on AI trends were previously shared in an opinion piece for The New York Times, where he advocated for innovative technical solutions to enhance internet openness amid industry challenges.
