Cinamon, Backed by Naver, Aims to Simplify 3D Video Animation with AI Technology
Naver-backed Cinamon aims to simplify 3D video animation through AI technologies. Recently securing an $8.5 million Series B funding, the South Korean startup is focusing on enhancing its animated video generation platform, “CINEV,” which is expected to enter beta testing in the first half of 2025. This investment round saw participation from Altos Ventures and Saehan Venture Capital.
Cinamon differentiates itself by enabling users to create 3D environments, direct scenes, and adjust camera angles using intuitive text prompts and sliders, as opposed to conventional AI generators that rely solely on pixel generation from existing references. CEO Doosun Hong emphasized that CINEV allows for smoother editing and direction, making it ideal for longer content types.
Founded in 2019 as Cinamon Games under Vonvon, the company shifted its focus towards creating tools for 3D animation amidst privacy concerns that led to a merger with its parent company. While competitors are adopting models for interactive storytelling and short-form videos, Cinamon aims to accelerate and enhance the production of 3D animation, providing substantial scalability potential.
In 2022, Cinamon invested in developing its animation platform and began integrating AI features to improve efficiency. A previous $10 million investment from Krafton, Naver Z, and SNOW in Cinamon’s Series A laid the groundwork for its ambitions. Cinamon seeks to leverage the intellectual properties and 3D assets of its investors, particularly in gaming, to expand its offerings beyond the gaming sector.
The startup’s multifaceted user base includes webtoon artists, game developers, and filmmakers, and it plans to scale its platform to cater to various content creators seeking more efficient workflows. Utilizing the new funds, Cinamon intends to bolster its team of AI engineers and enhance research and development efforts, building on its total capital raised, now totaling $18.5 million.
