AMD Accelerates Launch of Next-Gen Data Center GPUs

AMD has accelerated the launch of its next-generation data center GPUs, specifically the AMD Instinct MI350 series, moving the expected release date up from the second half of 2025 to mid-year 2025.
During the Q4 2024 earnings call, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su announced plans to sample the MI350 with key customers this quarter and ramp up production shipments sooner than initially projected. Su attributed the change to unexpectedly strong customer demand, stating, "This bring-up has come up better than we expected."
Despite trailing behind competitors like Nvidia, whose data center revenues consistently exceed tens of billions per quarter, AMD is making significant strides in the market. The company has successfully attracted customers such as Meta, Microsoft, and IBM. In 2024, revenue from AMD Instinct chips surpassed $5 billion, with the company forecasting double-digit growth in its data center segment for 2025.
Su expressed optimism about the demand for AI compute capabilities, suggesting that the MI350 will play a crucial role in boosting AMD’s data center GPU business: "We see [the data center] business growing to tens of billions as we go through the next couple of years."
Following the earnings report, AMD’s stock saw a positive response, rising by 4.58%.
