xAI’s Grok Chatbot Gains Visual Perception: A New Era in AI Interaction

On April 22, 2025, xAI revealed an exciting upgrade for its Grok chatbot called Grok Vision. This new feature enables the chatbot to "see" the world through a smartphone camera, allowing users to point their device at various objects, such as products or documents, and ask questions about what they are seeing. This functionality is akin to the real-time vision capabilities provided by Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT.

Currently, Grok Vision is available on the iOS version of the Grok app but is not yet supported on the Android version. Users are thrilled that they can ask the chatbot questions like "What am I looking at?" while utilizing the camera.

In addition to Grok Vision, xAI has rolled out other updates, including multilingual audio support and real-time search in Grok’s voice mode. Android users can also access these features, but only those subscribed to xAI’s $30-per-month SuperGrok plan.

These enhancements follow a series of recent upgrades, including a "memory" component that allows Grok to utilize information from past interactions.
