LayerX Revolutionizes Enterprise Back-Office Operations with AI, Secures $100M in Series B Funding
LayerX, a Japanese AI SaaS startup, has successfully raised $100 million in a Series B funding round led by Technology Cross Ventures (TCV). This marks TCV’s first venture into Japanese startups. While the company opted not to disclose its valuation, they indicated that both the valuation and funding amount are among the largest for a seven-year-old Japanese startup at this stage. The total raised now stands at $192.2 million, with contributions from investors such as MUFG Bank and Mitsubishi UFJ Innovation Partners.
LayerX is focused on solving back-office inefficiencies through automation, catering to over 15,000 companies with its flagship solutions. The startup’s primary offerings include Bakuraku, which automates corporate spending workflows encompassing expense management and invoice processing, and Ai Workforce, a generative AI product designed to enhance operational efficiency.
Founded in 2018 by Yoshinori Fukushima, who holds a background in machine learning from the University of Tokyo, LayerX emerged from a previous project addressing digital transformation barriers in Japanese enterprises. The CEO highlighted the prevalent reliance on paper and Excel for financial tasks within many Japanese companies, spurring the pivot to an AI-driven SaaS platform.
Despite competition from both domestic services like Money Forward Cloud Keihi and global players like SAP Concur, LayerX has experienced substantial growth. The company exceeded 10,000 customers by early 2024 and reached 15,000 by April 2025, indicating a robust market penetration.
Looking toward the future, LayerX targets an ambitious goal of achieving $680 million (¥100 billion) in annual recurring revenue by 2030, with expectations for substantial contributions from its AI solutions. Furthermore, the company aims to expand its workforce significantly over the next few years.
