Blackstone Supports Neysa with Up to $1.2B Financing to Strengthen India’s Domestic AI Infrastructure

Neysa, an Indian AI infrastructure startup, has received significant backing from U.S. private equity firm Blackstone as India intensifies its efforts to develop homegrown AI capabilities. In this partnership, Blackstone and other investors plan to inject up to $600 million in primary equity into Neysa, which will grant Blackstone a majority stake. Additionally, Neysa is looking to raise another $600 million in debt financing to expand its GPU capacity significantly, a marked increase from the $50 million it had previously raised.

This deal comes at a time when the global demand for AI computing is surging, resulting in supply shortages of specialized chips and data center resources necessary for training large AI models. New infrastructure providers, referred to as "neo-clouds," are emerging to fill this gap by offering dedicated GPU capacity and faster deployment options than traditional hyperscalers, particularly meeting the needs of enterprises requiring specific regulatory or customization requirements.

Neysa is carving out its niche by focusing on customized, GPU-first infrastructure for enterprises, government agencies, and AI developers in India. According to co-founder and CEO Sharad Sanghi, many customers seek extensive support and fast response times, which Neysa aims to deliver more effectively than larger hyperscalers.

Ganesh Mani, a senior managing director at Blackstone, reported that India currently has only about 60,000 GPUs, but this number is expected to grow to over two million within the next few years. This growth will be driven by the needs of government entities, industries with strict data localization requirements, and AI developers aiming to minimize latency by deploying closer to their major user bases.

Neysa intends to utilize most of the new funding to expand its GPU clusters and invest in research and development for its orchestration, observability, and security software platforms. The company is targeting to triple its revenue next year, with plans to extend its operations beyond India in the future. Founded in 2023, Neysa currently employs around 110 people across its offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
