Trump Administration Officials Prompt Banks to Explore Anthropic’s Mythos AI Model

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell recently held a meeting with bank executives, urging them to test Anthropic’s new AI model, Mythos, for identifying vulnerabilities, as reported by Bloomberg. While JPMorgan Chase was initially the only partner listed with access to this model, other major banks like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley have also begun testing it.

Anthropic unveiled Mythos earlier this week but has limited access due to its effectiveness in finding security vulnerabilities, despite the model not being designed specifically for cybersecurity. The effectiveness of Mythos has raised questions, with some critics suggesting it could be a marketing strategy.

Interestingly, this push comes amidst ongoing legal battles between Anthropic and the Trump administration, particularly regarding the Department of Defense’s designation of the company as a supply-chain risk. This designation arose after failed negotiations over how Anthropic’s AI models could be utilized by the government.

Additionally, financial regulators in the U.K. are also assessing the risks posed by Mythos.
