AI Model Maker Jev Valued at $7.5 Billion Just Weeks After Launch

TypeSafe AI has raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, just weeks after launching its new AI model, Jev. The funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Sequoia and existing investor DCVC also participating.

Jev debuted on September 15 and quickly attracted widespread attention. TypeSafe says a third of Fortune 500 companies are already using it.

The model uses a transformer architecture but is not a large language model. Rather than generating text, it produces probabilities—outputs the company describes as “calibrated decisions.” TypeSafe says Jev is faster and uses fewer tokens than LLMs, making it better suited to automating tasks than producing text or code.

Co-founder Diogo Almeida, a former OpenAI researcher, has argued that language models are not ideal for automation because computers operate in a different language. Almeida founded TypeSafe in 2024 with former Meta research engineer Sasha Sheng and engineer and entrepreneur Erik Gafni.
