Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang Assures Trump: “We Won’t Let an AI Slowdown Happen
During the All-In Summit on September 14, 2026, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang received a phone call from President Donald Trump while he was on stage. In an unexpected moment, Huang put Trump on speakerphone for the audience to hear. Trump, addressing Huang’s prominence in AI development, said, “We will not lose the AI race! And whatever Dario said this weekend won’t stop our progress.”
Huang was on stage discussing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s call to decelerate AI advancements. Amodei, supported by figures like Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, has advocated for a pause in the rapid progression of AI technologies. In contrast, Huang and Trump argued against this viewpoint. Trump expressed concern that calls to slow down AI could serve those aiming to limit American progress, implying potential influence from political actors and international competition, notably China.
As Huang agreed with Trump’s sentiments, the audience responded positively. Trump stated, “We have to do things and we have to do them prudently, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop an industry.” The discourse underscored the divergent perspectives within the tech industry regarding the pace of AI development amid increasing public scrutiny over the impacts of data centers and environmental concerns, evidenced by recent Gallup polling showing substantial opposition to local data center construction.
Huang’s public stance, buoyed by Trump’s support, reaffirmed a commitment to advancing AI technologies without heeding calls for restraint, positioning Nvidia at the forefront of the ongoing AI race.
