OpenAI has responded firmly to Elon Musk’s lawsuit, labeling his claims as “convoluted — often indecipherable — factual premises.”
Musk’s lawsuit charges OpenAI with violating its non-profit status and backtracking on a starting agreement to maintain the organization as a non-profit and make its AI technology accessible to the public. However, OpenAI has denied these claims, arguing that there is no such agreement with Musk and that it is nothing more than an “imaginary.”
As per court documents, OpenAI insists that there is no existing agreement with Musk, opposing his allegations in the lawsuit.
The organization maintains that Musk initially supported the idea of changing OpenAI into a for-profit company under his control. The narrative asserts that Musk desired complete control over the company as CEO, majority equity ownership, and even contemplated tying it to Tesla for financial aid. But, the discussions between Musk and OpenAI did not result in an agreement, leading Musk to exit the project.
The rebuttal from OpenAI underscores alleged emails exchanged between Musk and the organization, showing that he was aware and supportive of its transition to a for-profit model. The firm implies that Musk’s legal action is motivated by his wish to take credit for OpenAI’s achievements after he disconnected from it.
Reacting to Musk’s lawsuit, OpenAI paints his intentions as self-interested rather than altruistic. The organization alleges that his legal action is an attempt to promote his own commercial interests under the pretense of advocating for the human race.
In the meantime, Musk’s own venture into the field of artificial intelligence with his company xAI has caught the public’s attention.
Musk announced xAI’s intention to open source its Grok chatbot shortly after OpenAI’s publication of emails purportedly demonstrating Musk’s prior awareness of its non-open source intentions. While this move could be interpreted as a retaliatory gesture against OpenAI, it also presents an opportunity for xAI to garner feedback from developers and enhance its technology.
