1X Partners with Industry for Deployment of ‘Home’ Humanoids in Factories and Warehouses
1X, a robotics company, has announced a significant partnership to distribute its humanoid robots, originally designed for home use, into industrial settings. The agreement will see up to 10,000 of its Neo humanoid robots shipped to over 300 portfolio companies of EQT, a Swedish multi-asset investor, from 2026 to 2030.
This strategic move marks a shift from 1X’s original marketing focus, which presented the Neo robot as a household companion capable of performing various chores. The partnership is especially intriguing given that the Neo humanoid has not been previously promoted for commercial applications. While 1X does manufacture a robot for industrial tasks, the industrial deployment of the Neo showcases the potential for broader use cases beyond the consumer market.
1X’s decision to partner with EQT indicates an acknowledgment that the humanoid robot market for personal use may face challenges, particularly with its steep price of $20,000. For now, the industrial applications are seen as more viable, reducing the complexities associated with consumer adoption.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the Neo humanoid, opinions in the robotics field suggest that widespread acceptance of humanoids in domestic settings may be several years away, primarily due to concerns about privacy and safety. The technology involves human operators monitoring the robots via their cameras, introducing a layer of privacy discomfort for potential users. Additionally, there are safety concerns regarding interactions between humanoids and small pets or children.
While 1X has not disclosed the number of preorders it received for the Neo, a spokesperson noted that orders far exceeded the company’s expectations. With more than $130 million in venture funding, including investments from EQT Ventures and the OpenAI Startup Fund, 1X continues to position itself at the forefront of robotics innovation.
