Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang responded firmly against a recent report alleging tension between his company and OpenAI, stating the claims were “nonsense.” This statement followed a Wall Street Journal article that suggested Nvidia might be scaling back its significant investment in OpenAI, which was initially announced in September. The plan included Nvidia investing up to $100 billion and constructing substantial computing infrastructure for OpenAI.
The Journal indicated that Huang had suggested the deal was nonbinding, privately criticized OpenAI’s business approach, and raised concerns about competing firms such as Anthropic and Google. Despite these discussions suggesting a potential reevaluation of their relationship—potentially reducing the investment to tens of billions—Huang assured investors of Nvidia’s commitment. He stated during a media engagement in Taipei that Nvidia would “definitely participate” in OpenAI’s latest funding round, emphasizing the potential value of the investment.
He praised OpenAI’s contributions to technology, stating, “The work that they do is incredible. They’re one of the most consequential companies of our time.” However, he refrained from specifying the exact amount Nvidia would commit, leaving that disclosure to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
