Gatik Secures $200M in Funding to Revolutionize AI-Powered Autonomous Freight Solutions

Autonomous trucking company Gatik has successfully closed a $200 million Series D funding round, aimed at expanding its driverless freight operations in North America. The investment was spearheaded by the Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies, with notable contributions from Millennium Management, ARK Invest, Intact Private Capital, among others.

Gatik reports having over $600 million in contracted revenue and boasts a remarkable 99% on-time delivery rate with more than 85,000 fully autonomous orders completed. Their trucks currently transport goods between distribution centers and retail stores across various regions, including Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, and Canada. With a goal of operating over 100 driverless trucks by the end of 2026, the company is set to scale its fleet significantly in the upcoming years.

Gatik’s proprietary AI system, known as Gatik Driver, is engineered for regional freight routes, allowing their trucks to operate fully autonomously without a human driver or safety observer. Initially, their operations involved fixed-route deliveries, but they have since transitioned to dynamic freight networks capable of adapting to shifts in demand.

In a recent partnership with PepsiCo, Gatik’s trucks are now involved in high-frequency transportation of products across Texas, Arizona, and Arkansas. The autonomous trucks are focused on moving Frito-Lay products between distribution centers and retail stores.

Furthermore, Gatik has also strengthened its collaboration with Canadian retailer Loblaw, initiating a five-year plan to deploy 50 autonomous trucks in the Greater Toronto Area. This partnership evolved from previous operations involving safety drivers to fully autonomous freight services.

The company utilizes advanced simulation technologies and synthetic data to enhance its autonomous driving capabilities. Their internally developed simulation platform, Arena, enables Gatik to reproduce various driving conditions without relying solely on physical road tests.

Through ongoing developments and investments, Gatik aims to establish itself as a key player in middle-mile freight logistics, which involves transporting goods between major facilities rather than directly to consumers. With a commitment to achieving mass production of autonomous trucks and addressing operational challenges effectively, Gatik’s future looks promising as it continues to navigate the evolving landscape of autonomous transport.
