Spanish ‘Soonicorn’ Multiverse Computing Unveils Free Compressed AI Model
Spanish startup Multiverse Computing, noted for its rapid rise as a "soonicorn," has launched a free version of its advanced AI model, HyperNova 60B, which aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI capabilities and the accessibility needed for widespread deployment. This initiative targets the growing challenge of size in large language models (LLMs), which tend to be prohibitively large for many users.
Utilizing a unique compression technology dubbed CompactifAI, inspired by quantum computing, Multiverse has made significant strides in reducing the size of AI models while maintaining their effectiveness. The latest iteration of HyperNova 60B is now available on Hugging Face, showcasing a model that is approximately half the size of OpenAI’s gpt-oss-120B model, yet offers lower latency and memory usage.
Multiverse claims that its HyperNova 60B not only competes on performance but also surpasses certain competitors, including Mistral AI’s models, in certain aspects. Both companies, while rivals, share similarities such as expanding beyond their home markets and catering to enterprise clients, including notable companies like Iberdrola and Bosch.
Although yet to achieve unicorn status, Multiverse is rumored to be in discussions for funding that could value the company at over €1.5 billion, with an annual recurring revenue that reportedly reached €100 million at the start of 2026. This financial growth is part of a broader trend in demand for European tech firms as they provide alternatives to U.S.-based AI solutions.
The company is also solidifying its regional affiliations, having recently partnered with the government of Aragón alongside other support efforts from the Basque region. As it progresses, Multiverse intends to further democratize access to AI technology by open-sourcing additional compressed models later in 2026.
